A central element of the yogic philosophy is the understanding of one's interdependence with other humans within a fragile ecosystem. Not only do you teach your muscles how to move in a calm but strong way, you understand and build the connection between the body and the mind.
Some types of yoga are about relaxation, like Yin yoga, others are about sweating it all out, like Hot yoga or Ashtanga yoga. Most types focus on learning the basic poses, part of the “Sun Salutation” sequence which are called asanas. In every practice, you should start with a brief meditation and breathing to warm up the mind, you should then continue with 3 sun salutations to warm up the body and follow on with your asana sequence, finishing off on the floor with the most important pose: shavasannah (lying on the ground).
